THE Jubilee International Church (Eagles Nest Chapel) in Accra on Wednesday opened its annual five-day convention, with a call on Ghanaians to persevere in the face of difficulties to realise their dreams.
This year’s convention, which was held on the theme, “Spiritual Renewal for Total Life Acceleration”, brought together hundreds of worshippers from all over the country, as well as renowned religious leaders, including Rev Dr Lawrence Tetteh.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the General Overseer of the church, Bishop Bob Hawkson, said conventions afforded the opportunity for Christians to reflect, thereby allowing God to speak to His children.
He said it behoved the children of God to see themselves as winners, irrespective of the conditions in which they found themselves, noting that for the righteous to succeed, they must not be deterred by the many challenges encountered.
Bishop Hawkson called on Ghanaians to commit the country into the hands of God in order that the unity that prevailed among the citizenry could be maintained before, during and after the elections.
The guest speaker, Reverend Eric Kwapong, the General Overseer of Beacon of Glory International, USA, in his sermon, stated that spirituality brought emotional, physical and mental benefits from God upon those who walked in the Word.
Buttressing his point with a quote from Thessalonians 5:23, he stressed that the church needed to demonstrate the glory of God to the world, not only in spiritual terms but academic situations as well.
“As Christians, you only can overcome challenges after having an encounter with God,” Rev Kwapong said, and called on Christians to reposition themselves by doing away with negative tendencies that were a recipe for backwardness.
He said the acquisition of knowledge and the kind of friends one associated with were the factors that influenced one’s negative or positive behaviour in the area of spirituality.
He underscored the need for Christians to shun negative information that did not promote their spiritual interest and embracing that which was edifying through having a good relationship with God.
