THE Taifa branch of the Mpraesoman Kuo has inaugurated an 11-member executive body with a call on natives of Mpraeso resident in Taifa, Achimota and its environs to pool resources to support development projects in the town.
The mother organisation, known as the Mpraesoman Kuo of Accra and Tema which has oversight responsibility over Mpraeso residents in these towns, is being decentralised to local areas to facilitate effective planning and administration.
The Vice-Chairman of the Taifa branch, Mr Oppon Sasu, in his welcoming statement, said the formation of the local branch, which was made up of areas such as Amasaman, Ofankor, Kwabenya and Mile 7, was to foster unity among natives and also mobilise resources to support the development of Mpraeso.
He said as part of efforts to arrest the falling standards of education in the town, an educational fund was to be established with the purpose of supporting students in their drive to attain higher education.
The Taifa cell Chairman, Nana Kwadwo Adu, on behalf of the executive, pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them and called for total co-operation and unity among members.
Lamenting the poor performance recorded by students in the Basic Education Certificate Examination in Mpraeso, Nana Adu called for an investigation to ascertain what accounted for that dismal performance.
In his address, the Head of the Mpraeso community in Accra and Tema, Nana Owoahene Akyeampong II, who was the guest of honour, commended members of the branch for initiating laudable programmes to address the developmental needs of Mpraeso.
He was particularly pleased with the intended setting up of an educational fund which he pledged to support.
Nana Akyeampong II called for peace among members during the election season.
An appeal for funds was later launched and GH¢7,500 was realised.
