PNC, NPP join Muslims to mark Eid-Ul-Fitr

ON the occasion of this year’s “Eid-Ul-Fitr”, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the People’s National Convention (PNC) have sent a message of goodwill to all Muslims in the country as they join a billion-and-a-half others around the globe to mark the end of Ramadan.
In separate goodwill messages, the NPP said, “As we celebrate this happy occasion, our party and our country thanks Muslims for their significant contributions to our nation and the diversity they bring.”
The statement signed by Dr Arthur Kobina Kennedy, Chair of the Communication Directorate of the NPP campaign team said, “This is a time when all who can afford in the Islamic faith are enjoined to give alms to the poor. It is this spirit of concern for those in the shadows of society, the young, the elderly, the sick and the poor that has motivated the NPP’s social spending policies.”
It said amongst these have been the Capitation Grant, the School Feeding Programme and the National Health Insurance Scheme.
In this election year, the party, therefore, enjoined all Muslims and all other people of faith in praying and working for a peaceful election season.
The PNC, for its part, wished the Muslim fraternity a happy Eid-Ul-Fitr, saying that “Ramadan is one of the major religious obligations that every Muslim must observe; it is a period of deep supplication, a period of renewal and rejuvenation with Allah, the Omnipotent and Omniscient.”
The PNC’s statement, signed by Bernard Mornah, General Secretary of the Party, said “As we celebrate the culmination of this period of re-dedication, denial and sacrifice (Eid-Ul-Fitr), the PNC takes the opportunity to remind all Muslims that the blessings of this period must transcend our trying moment as a country.”
It said this feast of Ramadan must reinforce the commitment for a prosperous, peaceful and stable Ghana.
“We expect that as we rejoice in the abundant mercies that come our way in this period, we will be reminded to continue to do the things that are honourable to our nation, our neighbours and ourselves. We in the PNC can expect that you (Muslims) would use the occasion to straighten the path of truthfulness, eschew vulgar practices and call on those leaders of ours whose stock in trade it is to deny the majority their share to desist from it.” it stated.
The statement reminded Muslims that they owed it to themselves, the nation and the world the pursuit of fairness, justice and blissfulness whilst eschewing opulence, arrogance and pomposity, saying that, “These attributes must guide us as we challenge ourselves to another year of elections.”
