Murder at Kaneshie at dawn

A 46-YEAR-OLD man was murdered by an unidentified person at Kaneshie, a suburb of Accra, early yesterday morning.
The deceased, George Brown, was allegedly murdered in his house around 1 a.m., sending fear among residents of the area.
The deceased’s brother-in-law, William Nyarko, who claimed he had seen the deceased struggling with his assailant, told the Daily Graphic that while he was asleep, he heard the deceased shouting his (Nyarko’s) name that he had caught a thief. Consequently, he (Nyarko) quickly came out of the room, only to see Brown in a struggle with somebody.
He said he decided to call for help but before help could come, the other man had absconded, leaving the deceased lying in a pool of blood.
Mrs Brown, the deceased’s wife, in her narration, told the Daily Graphic amid tears that she and her husband had been indoors watching television on Sunday night but in the process she fell asleep, until she head a loud voice calling her name from outside.
According to her, when she woke up, she did not find her husband in the room and when she went out to ascertain who had called her, she saw her husband and a stranger in a scuffle in the yard, a situation which alarmed her.
She said she rushed to a nearby house for help but before anyone could come to her aid, her husband had been stabbed in the chest, neck and the genitals.
Mrs Brown who, together with the husband, operates a food joint known as 'Cookers Delight' opposite the Cocoa Clinic, said given the critical condition in which she found the deceased, she mobilised support and conveyed him to the Cocoa Clinic but the clinic authorities demanded a deposit before Brown, who was bleeding profusely, could be treated. She said all her pleas went unheeded.
After staying at the clinic for about 45 minutes without first aid treatment, the traumatised widow said the authorities there referred Brown to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and an ambulance was arranged to convey him there. But he died on arrival.
His body has since been deposited at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Confirming the story to the Daily Graphic, the Kaneshie Divisional Crime Officer of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Wonder K. Dogbevia, said the deceased’s wife reported the murder of her husband by an unidentified person around 4 a.m. on Monday.
He said the criminal left behind the machete he had used in committing the crime at the crime scene, as well as his pair of sandals which was currently in the possession of the police.
DSP Dogbevia said his outfit had intensified investigations and appealed to members of the public to volunteer information to ensure that the perpetrator was brought to book.
The deceased left behind a wife and a five-year-old son.
